Ernest Shackleton

Having been to Antarctica several times on National Science Foundation Antarctic Artist and Writers grants, I know that the continent–frozen, isolated, hauntingly beautiful–is like no other place on Earth. And of all the famous Antarctic explorers, Ernest Shackleton also stands apart. Against unfathomable odds, Shackleton saved his entire crew when his ship Endurance became trapped in the ice at the start of his 1915 expedition. It is an almost unbelievable story of courage and fierce determination that forms the heart of this biography for young adults.
